Tear It Down
It may be a bar, but it's not a pub
The house had a bar designed by someone who was incredibly tall and had limited design taste. On a fixed budget. And in a hurry. That's my guess.
Few things in life are permanent. In this case, that was a great comfort.
Many words came to mind when tearing down this behemoth. "Craftsmanship" was not one of them.
The carpet and padding came up easily enough. Yep. They carpeted over rolled linoleum. Reminiscent of the remodeling shows on TV: you never know what surprises lurk.
Also tore the countertop off. It was a black composite material. Definitely not pub material.
Replaced the sink and faucet as well. Like the countertop, weighed in the balance and found wanting.
I did keep the sturdy little Ikea cabinets.
I started to remove the linoleum. Glue must have been on sale. That explains why they put carpet over it originally.
Went to Home Depot to rent a floor stripper. They used a hydraulic lift to get it into my Tiguan. Getting it out of the car at home, lugging it into the basement, then loading it back in the car... it's a story you'll have to hear over a pint.
